Biography
Brian Carruthers serves as Managing Editor at Fine Times Canada, coordinating daily news coverage, managing the editorial calendar, and ensuring every story meets the publication's standards for accuracy and clarity. He runs a fast, disciplined newsroom and is known for his ability to manage breaking stories under pressure.
Brian spent more than 15 years in Canadian newsrooms before joining Fine Times Canada. He ran the national desk at the National Post for six years and before that worked as a copy editor and night editor at the Calgary Herald. He also spent two years as a digital editor at Global News, helping build their real-time election coverage infrastructure. His work earned a Digital Publishing Award for breaking news in 2019.
Brian grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where his father worked in the forestry industry. He studied English at Lakehead University before completing a journalism program at Humber College. He is an avid cross-country skier who races competitively in the Gatineau Loppet, brews his own beer, and coaches his daughter's soccer team on weekends.
