Biography
Colleen MacPherson writes about culture, lifestyle, food, and the arts for Fine Times Canada. Her beat spans restaurant reviews, cultural trends, neighbourhood profiles, and stories about the communities that give Canadian cities their character. She brings a sociological eye to lifestyle journalism and always looks for the bigger picture behind the trend piece.
Colleen spent four years at the Vancouver Sun writing features and a popular weekend culture column. Before that, she worked as a reporter at the Victoria Times Colonist and contributed lifestyle pieces to Western Living magazine. Her Sun series on the changing food culture of East Vancouver's Commercial Drive was nominated for a Jack Webster Award.
Colleen grew up in Victoria, BC, in an Irish-Canadian family that ran a bed and breakfast in James Bay. She studied sociology at the University of Victoria and completed a journalism program at Langara College. She is an enthusiastic home cook and baker, volunteers at the Vancouver Writers Fest every October, and hikes the North Shore trails most weekends.
