Biography
Douglas Reid writes Fine Times Canada's flagship opinion column, published three times a week. His writing covers politics, social policy, national identity, and the state of Canadian democracy. He is known for sharp arguments, dry humour, and a willingness to challenge orthodoxies on both sides of the political spectrum.
Douglas is one of Canada's most experienced political commentators. He spent nine years as a columnist at the National Post, where his weekly column was among the most-read on the site. Before that, he was a political reporter at the Globe and Mail, covering two federal elections and the Sponsorship Scandal fallout. He is a regular panelist on CBC's Power and Politics and has contributed commentary to CTV's Question Period.
Douglas grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the son of a provincial court judge. He studied political science at the University of New Brunswick before completing a master's degree in political theory at the University of Toronto. He lives in Ottawa with his wife and three children, follows New Brunswick politics with an intensity that puzzles his Ontario colleagues, and spends his summers at a family cabin on the Saint John River.
