Mike Davenport is Fine Times Canada's sports reporter, covering hockey, the CFL, and the business of professional sports in Canada. He writes game recaps, player profiles, and investigative pieces on topics like arena financing and athlete safety protocols.
Mike spent five years at the Winnipeg Free Press as a sports reporter, covering the Jets and the Blue Bombers. Before Winnipeg, he freelanced for Sportsnet and contributed to The Athletic's Canadian coverage. His 2022 feature on the economics of junior hockey in Manitoba drew national attention and was cited in a Senate committee hearing.
Mike grew up in Sudbury, Ontario, playing hockey from the time he could walk. He studied at Laurentian University and completed a sports journalism program at Centennial College. He still plays in a beer league twice a week, follows junior hockey closely, and spends his summers fishing on Lake Nipissing with his father and brother.
