Hello forum. New member here. Long-time recreational casino player but until last week I'd never used crypto for gambling, always Interac and bank transfer. Decided to try BTC for the privacy and speed angle that gets discussed in the forum. Posting my experience because I learned a lot in the process and figure it's useful for other newcomers.

Setup: Coinbase account (took 2 days to get fully verified due to ID review queue), bought $300 CAD worth of BTC for $295 effective after spread, sent it from Coinbase to Cloudbet's deposit address. The send fee was $1.20 CAD which I thought was reasonable. The deposit confirmed in 14 minutes on Cloudbet's side after 1 confirmation. Played a small slot session, deposited fine.

Things I got wrong on the first try: didn't realize Coinbase has a $300 daily limit for new accounts (couldn't do the larger send I'd originally planned), didn't realize the BTC network fee changes hourly (the $1.20 fee could have been $5+ during peak times). Glad to have the practice run done at small scale.

Welcome to the forum. Coinbase is fine for first-time setup but the spreads are high — when you scale up consider Kraken or Bitstamp for tighter spreads. Coinbase typically charges 1-2% on the BTC purchase + the network fee. Kraken is closer to 0.2% + network fee on similar volumes.

For ongoing deposits the cost difference adds up. A $1,000 deposit on Coinbase costs you ~$15-20 in spread; same on Kraken costs ~$3.

Network fee tip: BTC fees spike on weekends and around US business hours. If you can pre-fund a hot wallet on Sunday evening Canadian time, the network is usually cheap. Mempool.space is the resource for checking current fee rates before you send.

LTC (Litecoin) is also worth considering for funding — same operators that accept BTC usually accept LTC, and the network fee is consistently sub-$0.10.
